Dear Empowerment Academy Families,

Welcome to the 2022 - 2023 School Year! I am very excited for this school year, as I am looking forward to our continued success! Last year was a challenging year for many of us, as we navigated the uncertainty that the COVID-19 brought us (still). Even though things may be returning to “normal”, we will continue to navigate uncertain waters and endure challenges and learn new things along the way. Before we get into information for the new school year, let’s look at all that we have accomplished and celebrate the successes of last year:

  •  We successfully completed our School Effectiveness Review and received and overall “Effective” rating

  • 93% of our students either met or exceeded their growth goals in Reading according to the EOY iReady Diagnostic

  • 85% of our students either met or exceeded their growth goals in Math  according to the EOY iReady Diagnostic.

  • As a school, we have rapidly closed achievement gaps that were present as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • We continued to navigate change and uncertainty with resilience and perseverance.

As you recall last school year, the theme was “Destination Excellence: Passport to Greatness”. We returned to the school building after being virtual for nearly a year and a half. We could not have accomplished such great success without everyone working together on behalf of the children. This year's theme will be: “Anchored in Excellence: Navigating Toward Success”. This year’s theme will focus on teamwork and navigating various challenges as a school community. For our theme, it will be a little different, as it will be evident throughout our entire building and all extended learning spaces.

For the next school year, we will have two major initiatives: Mathematics as Literacy and Strengthening Our Climate and Culture. For many years we have continued to perform in literacy, but our growth in mathematics remains stagnant. This year, we are going to focus on math in the same way that we have focused on literacy in the past. We also learned last year that the challenges that COVID-19 brought disrupted our school's culture. As we embark on the upcoming school year, we are tasked with becoming a stronger school community where we all are working toward the same vision and goals. The reality is that we can not move forward as a school unless we all work together as a team.

While these two initiatives may seem simple, there is going to be a great deal of work ahead, so get ready! This year will be very unpredictable, but I am confident that through partnership and teamwork we will accomplish our mission: Accelerating achievement.

I look forward to seeing you all on August 29th at 7:30 am!

With Cheetah Pride,
